How to Create Borders around an Image using Photoshop

Create Borders around an image using Photoshop
DR Gurung
This post was inspired by a question from the visitors in this blog and other blogs of mine about how to create simple, yet elegant frame/borders around an image. I'm sure you will be amazed after adding frames/borders to your images.
Sample Image↴
Follow the simple steps below to create frames/borders around an image:
Step 1: Open the image (Here I am using 700 x 424 px size image).
Step 2: Go to FileNew→Create a new layer of same size as image (700 x 424 px), select content transparent.
Step 3: Go to the Edit menu, select Fill and fill the layer with black.

Step 4: Click the Layer (4th position from left in the Menu panel) → Layer Style → and select Stroke. Set the Size to 7 pixels (As per your need), the Position to Inside, and the Opacity to 60% and select white colour #fff (As per your need). (These values are based on the size and resolution of the image used. This image is about 700 x 424 px with a resolution of 72 pixels/inches.)

Step 5: Go to the LayerLayer StyleBlending Options. In the Advanced Blending Options section, set the Fill Opacity to 0%. Click OK to close Layer Styles.

Now, keep in mind that we are creating borders around image. So, create another layer with same process above. Only you need to change in Stroke, Size to 3 pixels, opacity to 80%-100% and select pink colour #e95ca2 (As per your need).
Step 6: Drag all those two borders (white #fff and pink #e95ca2) respectively to the original image. The result is here :)
That’s it. Simple, elegant… Gotta love it!
